We, the members of the National Association of Black Journalists San Diego State University, work to provide a space where aspiring Black student journalists can feel supported, affirmed and heard. Our mission is to provide valuable networking opportunities that can assist members as they navigate their journalism career.
Trinity is a Senior studying television, media and Spanish. Originally from Washington, D.C., Trinity came to San Diego to gain the skills necessary to become a journalist working in entertainment. At The Daily Aztec, she is the Managing Editor and was the Opinion Editor and a Staff Writer for the arts and culture section. She also held an internship with CNN’s opinion team and hosts and produces her own podcast called TRINtalks! Some of the many goals she hopes to achieve within her journalism career include becoming a bilingual broadcast producer and hosting an entertainment-based talk show. Being apart of NABJ-SDSU is equipping her to reach those goals. Within the organization, she hopes to continue forming deeper connections with other student journalists as well as established journalists to truly learn all there is to learn about journalism.

Tairiq Marshall is a Senior journalism major at SDSU. Following undergrad, Tairiq has long-term aspirations of pursuing a career in sports writing, reporting and analysis. He currently serves as a staff writer for Sportsnaut, a digital media platform disseminating news and coverage on professional and amateur sports. Tairiq is a native of Sacramento, Calif. and loves reading, cooking, and music. This Fall, Tairiq will have his own sports blog, “Running Up the Score,” where he will cover all things related to Major League Baseball and the National Football League.
JohVonne Roberts is a Sophomore at San Diego State University. She is majoring in Journalism/Media Studies. Along with NABJ, she is also involved with the SDSU Diamonds and the Weber Honors College. In the future, she would like to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, preferably in politics.
Sierra Stallworth is a Junior pursuing a major in Journalism/Media Studies, with a minor in Africana Studies. She is from the San Francisco Bay Area and loves the diverse culture from her hometown. In her free time she enjoys reading, fashion, and plants. Sierra’s dream job is to be a Social Media Manager at a fashion magazine.

Morgan is a Junior at San Diego State University studying journalism. He was born in Libreville, Gabon and lived in South Africa up until middle school when he moved to the Bay Area. Morgan has always had a passion for writing and telling stories and with how accessible media is nowadays. He hopes to excel and create the best work possible for his audiences. Aleah Jarin is currently a Digital Media producer at NBC 7 San Diego News. She graduated from San Diego State University in Spring 2021. She enjoys fashion, lifestyle and entertainment, and hopes to write for a major fashion or lifestyle publication one day. Aleah currently wrote for The Daily Aztec’s Arts and Culture section and also worked for the College of PSFA as a marketing and communications intern. Aleah also has her own fashion blog at aleahjarin.com.
Devin Whatley was a journalism senior at San Diego State University and graduated in Spring 2021. Devin served as the Arts & Culture Editor for The Daily Aztec, SDSU’s student newspaper. He is now a Story Producer for NBC 7 San Diego News and was News Production Assistant for KPBS News. He also interned at the Voice of San Diego. His career aspirations are to become a sports journalist for a news company, a correspondent for “60 Minutes” or work in the journalism industry in some capacity. Danielle Scott was a Senior at San Diego State University with a major in journalism. She graduated in Spring 2021. Her interests include pop culture, fashion and all things beauty related. She now works in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles which is about 45 minutes outside of her hometown of Long Beach, Calif. Danielle was currently the Social Media Coordinator for NABJ SDSU and a Personal Assistant.
